My Country, Once So Free

(to the tune of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”)*

My country, once so free,
Now ruled by tyranny,
I weep for thee.
Laws fall and rights are stripped,
Justice and truth eclipsed,
While hatred cracks the whip—
Land of the greed.

Once home for those in need,
Now walls rise up with speed,
“Go back!” they cry.
Families torn apart,
Cages and frozen hearts,
Dreams shattered from the start,
Hope left to die.

Courts bow to wealth and might,
Power erasing rights,
With ruthless hand.
Votes lost and voices drowned,
Protests are struck down,
Dictators take the crown—
Dark clouds expand.

Yet still, we will not yield,
Still, we must take the field,
Stand strong, stand true.
Liberty’s flame burns on,
Even when hope seems gone,
We will reclaim our song,
Freedom anew.
